Antique Dining Table Restoration – This antique table has been used by the Athens-Clarke County, Georgia  Fire Department since 1890. It is located at Fire Hall #1 ( headquarters).  This is their main dining hall table.  It is used every day and is the centerpiece for all of their meetings, meals, breaks, kid’s birthday parties, etc.

The table is 9′ long and 60″ wide. circa 1890,   It is made of quarter-sawn White Oak or “Tiger Oak”  Notice the large yellow rays in the wood.  That’s where the wood gets the nickname “Tiger Oak”.  The table needed to be completely restored.  It had several cracks in the top from 110 years of everyday use.   Every board in the table was split open, edge joined, and re-glued.  The firemen were extremely proud to get the restored table back home and put it into use for the next 100 years.

It was a real pleasure to be a part of this project and to work with Athens-Clarke’s finest.
